New training and combat airplane prototype unveiled

The prototype of the new domestic light training and combat airplane, named "Kobac" (Sparrow Hawk), was presented to Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac at the Utva plane factory in Pancevo, on April 2.

The airplane is a result of cooperation between the Military Technical Institute, the SDPR company and Utva, and is a completely domestic product, said the chief engineer of the project, Vojislav Devic.
This will be one of the most important products of our military industry, and its production is to start next year, Sutanovac stated.
"The 'Kobac' will be the most expensive product of Serbia's entire economy, and it is important that we are returning to the world market with such a sophisticated product. We expect buyers very soon," the defense minister said.
Last year, the military industry exported USD250 million worth of weaponry and contracted deals worth another 600 million, he added.
During the visit to Pancevo, the Serbian defense minister observed the maneuver of the Serbian Armed Forces Special Brigade at the "Rastko Nemanjic" barracks.
"This unit is among the elite in the Balkans. It has the most modern equipment, and it will receive Hummer vehicles sometime this summer," Sutanovac announced.
Military analyst Aleksandar Radic told BETA that there are many countries in the world which have problems with terrorists and guerrillas and, for this reason, there is demand on the market for a light combat turboprop airplane such as the "Kobac."
