Members of the Indonesian Army's Strategic Reserve Command (Kostrad)
stated on 21 August they were awaiting the imminent arrival of the first
batch of ex-German Leopard 2A6 main battle tanks.
The first units, likely to number just over 30, will be assigned to
the 8th Cavalry Battalion of Kostrad's 2nd Division, based in Pasuruan
district, East Java province. This battalion had previously been
outfitted with the Scorpion reconnaissance vehicle and Stormer armoured
vehicle from the British-designed Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance
(Tracked) family.
While the Leopard 2A6s are being sourced from German Army reserve
stocks, they will be upgraded to the Leopard 2 Revolution variant, which
is fitted with increased mine protection and an Advanced Modular Armour
Protection package that allows the armour to be tailored to the user's
requirements.
