Indonesia has finally implemented its $ 400 million deal to buy 16 units of T-50 Golden Eagle advanced jet trainers from Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) by paying part of the contract, Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) said Wednesday.
The deal marks the type’s first export sale to overseas but the payment had been delayed, said the Korean aerospace company.
Indonesia paid an upfront cost of $ 60 million, 15 percent of the total contract for the jet trainers.
The Indonesian Defense Ministry signed the deal with KAI one year and six months ago. KAI will deliver the trainers to the country’s air force as the contract stipulates that the aircraft must be delivered 18 months after the contract went in effect.
The aircraft will be delivered more than four months ahead of schedule. KAI already began production of T-50i, the Indonesian variance of T-50, a KAI official said.
